ABOUT SCAT PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION SERVICES
South Coast Area Transit provides two types of public transportation in Western Ventura County:
ACCESS paratransit service:
SCAT provides ACCESS paratransit service for people with disabilities who cannot ride the general public bus service and for seniors 65 years of age and older. ACCESS riders reserve their trips by phone one day in advance. Riders usually are picked up at the curb outside their homes and dropped off at the curb outside their destination. Riders can use ACCESS for any trip purpose to any destination within the SCAT service area. All ACCESS minibuses and vans are equipped with wheelchair lifts/ramps.
Please note that ACCESS is public transportation and not a taxicab service. When planning your trip, remember that you will often share the ride with others. The driver will usually pick up and drop off other people on the way to your destination so your travel time will be longer than it would be by taxi or private automobile.
General public bus service:
SCAT also operates large buses on 14 fixed routes for the general public. Passengers plan their own trips based on their own needs and wait for the bus at a bus stop along the route or at a bus transfer center. No advance reservation is required to use general public bus service. All buses are equipped with wheelchair lifts/ramps and a kneeling feature that lowers the front end of the bus for easier boarding.
